In Virginia, there are approximately 5,500 children in the foster care system. That is a huge number of children without a family and a home to call their own.
As believers we are in God's forever family. “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also...And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live." John 14: 1-3 and 16-19.
In response to His love and promises, our missional community group will be exploring ways we can be involved in the foster care system in VA. Our hope is to encourage the church to join with us as we equip ourselves to share God's love with the fatherless.
